Julia Fordham has provided, without her knowledge, the soundtrack to much of my life. From her early hits like Manhattan Skyline and Towerblock to her more recent work, Concrete Love. But NOW, she has a brand new release, which you can download INSTANTLY. And I insist that you do. You will love her as much as I do. While you’re at it, visit iTunes or your favorite online retailer and buy her backlist. Every album is amazing. Porcelain is my favorite because Pighead gave it to me on our second date. I still have it. When CD’s were new. 1989. Price: $14.99

I am in L.A. to deliver a eulogy for a very dear friend - the mother of my next door neighbor. While it’s sad, sad, sad to be here under these circumstances, I was moved by the beauty outside my hotel room and wanted to share it with you all (click here). Tomorrow, after the service, I will post the eulogy here for you to read, so that you can see why this woman meant so much to me.

RELATIVE STRANGER
A story of a mismatched friendship between a gay thirty-something British man and a brash American teenage girl, and the discovery that they share an almost impossible secret.

“A funny and ultimately touching novel, full of endearing characters, unexpected plot twists, and a whole lot of joie de vivre.”
-Stephen Mccauley, best selling author of Object Of My Affection
“Relative Stranger is surprising and sassy and very sweet. It’s rare to find a genuinely funny novel with this much heart.”
-Robert Rodi, author of When You Were Me

I was writing an email to my otters and I was being very fast and sloppy and something I wrote came out as, “AIDS cake.” I don’t even remember what I was trying to say but AIDS CAKE became, sort of, one of our phrases. So I asked Kevin my art director friend to create for me a proper AIDS CAKE. How would it look? And this is the result. GOD, I love the AIDS CAKE.

I am going to spend the entire day in bed with Blenheim ginger ales, refrigerated M&M’s, two bulldogs and a stack of DVDs, one of which will most certainly be:

Feel perfectly free to steal my New Year’s day plans. Or, invent your own. But whatever you decide to do, I hope your day is as close to perfect as it is humanly possible to make it.
Also? It snowed here.

Happy O Eight,
Augusten
